Emmanuel Kwabena Amoyaw

Emmanuel Kwabena Amoyaw aka DJ Smokie. The nick name "Smokie" was given to me by my fans because I turn the turntable on fire when I spin. I feed of the energy through the crowd which allows me to perform better. I was born on September 25th, 1979 and was raised in Accra Ghana. My first love has always been listening to music. Not any type in particular but I love all kinds of genres. From the age of 7 to 14 years, I started to follow some friends who were DJs and producers.

My mind craves for learning anything about music and that caused me to learn different techniques of being a DJ and having my finger on the pulse of my listeners. After I left Ghana to the United States to further my education, my love for music came with me. I majored in Electronics and Sound Engineering. With my degree, I got the opportunity to work with A.B.K Studios in Connecticut and through that landed a permanent gig as a DJ at a Premier Connecticut night club. Thinking and keeping positive is a state that I cherish, and I believe that one day I will be able to build a production company empire off my current media company.

I'm thankful for the opportunity to be part of the Volta Power FM Dream Team and looking forward to taking this station to the next level!
